2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 38%Homes of every age

About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Where housing ages are mixed, some homes have never had a deadbolt and others have two. The visit starts with a look at what is already there, and the recommendation might be adding a lock on one house and simply tuning it on the next.

  • 37%

Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).

Shared entrances mean fobs, intercoms and buzzers alongside conventional locks. A locksmith can service the mechanical side of those doors and advise on how the fob system and the cylinder work together when management asks.

Locksmith services

What we do

The services below cover most of what a door in Streetsville can throw at you. Some are urgent, like a lockout or a snapped key. Others are planned, like upgrading to a high-security cylinder or setting up a master key system for a small building. Each one is explained in plain terms so you know what to expect.

Lockouts

Lockout Services

Emergency locksmithing is quiet work done in noisy moments. We are used to talking someone through the steps while they stand in the cold, and to leaving a door that closes, latches and locks the way it should.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

We fit locks to the household, not the other way round. A family with young children wants something a small hand can operate from inside.

Lost Keys — Same-Visit Rekey

The keys fell out of a gym bag somewhere between the arena and the parking lot. The ring has a tag from the building with the unit number on it. Whoever finds it has an address and a key that fits.

Landlords and property managers in Streetsville get a partner who understands turnover. We rekey between tenants, keep the unit keys under one master so you carry a single ring, fit hardware that survives heavy use, and note what was done on each door. When a tenant loses a key at an awkward hour, we already know the building.

How a visit goes

A business hands out keys as people join and rarely gets every one back as people leave. Rekeying resets that count.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Understanding the safe

We ask what the safe is for, how it is opened and what has changed: a lost combination, a dead keypad, a bolt that will not retract. Each points to a different approach.

  2. 2 of 3

    Opening or repairing carefully

Where a combination can be reset or a keypad replaced, we do that. Where the safe must be opened without its code, we use the method that leaves it usable afterwards.

  3. 3 of 3

Setting it up for you again

Once it works we help you choose a new combination or code, show you how to change it later and suggest a sensible place to keep a record.

Questions we hear most

(289) 805-2348

Does the locksmith need to see the actual lost key, or just look at the lock?

Just the lock, and the door it is fitted to. A rekey works on the cylinder itself: the locksmith opens it, fits a new set of pins matched to a fresh key, and the old key stops working the moment that is done, whether or not it ever turns up again. Knowing roughly how the old key looked, cut on both edges, a chip on the head, a certain brand, can still help identify which cylinders in the house shared that key.

Do neighbouring mailboxes in the panel get disturbed during the work?

No. The work is confined to the named compartment or compartments. Neighbouring doors keep their existing locks and keys, and the panel's frame, hinges, and shared structure are left as they are. Even during a larger job covering many compartments, each one is handled as its own small task rather than as one blanket change across the whole panel.

Will anchoring damage my flooring?

Anchoring leaves small holes at the anchor points, sized to the bolts being used, and on a finished floor these sit under the safe itself where they are never seen again. On tile, the risk of cracking nearby tiles is real enough that an alternative fastening point or a different spot in the room is often chosen instead of drilling straight through the tile itself.

How long should we set aside for a commercial rekey?

It depends on the count and the mix. A shop with a front door, a back door and a stockroom is a short visit; an office suite with a dozen lever sets, a master key plan and a mailbox takes a good part of a day. Interchangeable cores are the shortest of all, since they are swapped rather than repinned on site. The locksmith gives a time estimate at the assessment, once every cylinder has been counted.

Do all the doors on my property need to be part of the master system?

No. Some doors, such as a private office or a room with a single regular user, can reasonably stay on their own key outside the hierarchy if there is no real benefit to including them. The assessment is partly about deciding which doors belong in the system and which are simpler left alone, rather than assuming every lock has to join.
